THE
TERRACE
Home for the Homeless
HOPESTREET
established The Terrace in 1989.
It is different to other temporary refuges in the inner city
in that it is a medium to long term transitional house aimed at
providing the stable home environment and personal support needed
to empower people to achieve independence in housing and employment
and make other positive life choices. Casework, a living skills
program and participation in the house community help develop the
skills and attitudes which life on the street often dulls or deletes. People are treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve
and are supported in a place that seeks to provide a home for people
who would not otherwise have a home and thereby experience in a
tangible way the love of God. Residents are often very open about
their faith journey and The Terrace provides an opportunity to explore
this journey which many take up. Our presence at The Back Shed drop-in
cafe and a breakfast in the street before Woolloomooloo Baptist
service each Sunday morning provides many opportunities for contact
with Homeless people.
