Books

Rev Heather Mc Clelland from HopeStreet has written two books, Holy Topsy-Turvydom and The Almond Tree. Heather is a counsellor who works with many people who suffer from chronic illness, addictions, relational struggles and physical and emotional pain.

Holy Topsy Turvydom
Is a book which was launched in May 2003. It compiles about twenty Australian Stories, written personally and very honestly, by people who have suffered trauma in their lives and who describe how trauma has impacted them and also how it has begun to be healed.

Most of us carry unresolved trauma in our lives, far more than one might suspect. This book could prove a catalyst for healing. It may also be of use for those who are studying Pastoral Care and Counselling and for those working in the helping and healing professions. Finally the book can have an educative function and may challenge our ingrained habit of passing judgement on others.

Price: $20

The Almond Tree
This book was first published in 1995. It is also a compilation of Australian Stories. This time the topic is sexual abuse. The stories come from a wide range of perspectives and show the church both as a healing community but also as part of the problem.

Price: $15

Mary Bladon Books
Jesus the Divine worker
A Bible Study in Poetry
From Mark's Gospel in the Greek New Testament

Nothing is more important for men and women today than to be introduced to Jesus Christ. A great place to begin is the Gospel of Mark ... The Gospel about Jesus Christ, the Servant Saviour, who announces the coming of the kingdom and calls people to radical discipleship.
'... The work exhibits serious study of the background details as well as the text itself. Mabel Anne not only helps us to understand the Gospel by insightful comments, but she also exhorts us to apply the teaching to our personal lives.'

Rev. Angelo Gratsounas

In the early eighties, Mabel Anne spent her days off duty on Manly Beach making studies from the Greek Testament and turning them into poetry and song. They have been broadcast on radio since 1982 and on satellite since 1996.

Mabel Anne has now put several hundred pages of this poetry and song into print. Almost 20,000 of Mabel Anne's books have been sold in aid of Mission work. This is her seventh book.

Price: $10.50

Those Years of the Locust
Shows us a fresh picture of the Great Depression drawn by a survivor whose love for Jesus Christ drove her to help the people who were hardest hit. Mabel Anne tells us what it was really like in the inner suburbs of Sydney, where she worked as a mission sister with the Sydney City Mission.

Price: $8.50

The Song of the Bamu
Tells of Mabel Anne's experiences as a pioneer medical missionary in Papua New Guinea. This story of the everyday experiences of a Sydney nurse working in isolated Papuan villages becomes truly a hymn of praise and joy.

Price: $7.00

A Hospital Grows ... or doesn't it?
How did a fifteen-bed nursing home grow from 28 pounds? The answer is given in this book, which tells of the energy, ingenuity and faith of Mabel Anne Bladon, whose great heart and total dedication to God surmounted hurdles which would have stopped the rest rest of us in our tracks.

Price: $7.00

Songs and Poems
Is the crowning of glory of Mabel Anne's writing experience. The poems reflect a simple faith, a deep theology and a clear philosophy. They are illustrated with beautiful coloured photographs of Australia.

Price: $12.00

Tidal Waves on the Bamu
With warmth and honesty Mabel Anne shows us the everyday scenes of building canoes, coping with snakes and crocodiles and eating sago grubs ... To Mabel Anne Bladon a dark evil-smelling hut with its sick and despairing family was the very gate of Heaven.

Price: $7.00
