Australians urged to ‘check in’ on their gambling during responsible Gambling Awareness Week 2018

Responsible Gambling Awareness Week is a great time to check in on your gambling. A NSW Government initiative, Australians are being urged to stop and think about their own gambling practices and start a conversation with family and friends during 8-14 October.

Gambling problems are often accompanied by social difficulties, relationships issues, mental health concerns including depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts, financial problems, housing and legal difficulties. It is important to start having a think about your own relationship with gambling.

At BaptistCare HopeStreet Gambling Help, we currently offer two vital services: Gambling Help as well as Financial Counselling. Gambling Help Manager Sondra Kalnins of BaptistCare HopeStreet Gambling Help said the period between the footy grand finals and Melbourne Cup was a great time for people to consider if they need to make any changes to their gambling behaviour, “whether you like betting on the occasional long shot or always backing favourites, Responsible Gambling Awareness Week is a great time to check in on your gambling,” added Sondra.

If you or anyone you know needs assistance with problem gambling, whether you are the person with the gambling problem or a family member, please call Sondra on 9332 3506 or email Skalnins@baptistcare.org.au to arrange a confidential appointment.
