Bruce`s Message Spring 2017

New Beginnings

Thank you to Matt and the team of HopeStreet in welcoming me as the new Manager. I had known of HopeStreet for a number of years, but first connected with the team in 2014 when BaptistCare Relationship Services in Bankstown linked with BaptistCare HopeStreet Women’s Services in Woolloomooloo to provide counselling services.

As my knowledge of HopeStreet grew, I was keen to be personally involved. When first invited to join Ride To The Top in 2016, I welcomed the opportunity as a recreational cyclist. Happy to be supporting a good cause raising funds for HopeStreet’s unique breadth of programs, I returned for the ride again in 2017. Little did I foresee I would be here planning To The Top in 2018!

I have been with BaptistCare for 11 years now, most recently working in the Relationship Services office in Bankstown managing a team of counsellors working with women and children affected by the enormous issue of Domestic and Family Violence. As a counsellor, I’ve mainly worked with men to address their use of violence and abuse towards their families. I’m all too familiar with the effects of Domestic Violence on individuals and communities and how it can lead to other complex personal and social issues.

I now look forward to being a part of the vibrant team at HopeStreet. I am sure I have much to learn while bringing my skills and fresh perspective to the life changing work that is HopeStreet. HopeStreet’s reputation as a place of “hope” amidst the homeless, marginalised and otherwise forgotten members of our community is second to none. I trust that with God’s strength and guidance, I will be able to lead the team in continuing to serve the community here in a way that allows people to begin to face and possibly overcome challenges in their lives.

I look forward to connecting with you as we partner to bring hope. No doubt I will have many stories of hope to share with you in the coming issues of the HopeStreet newsletter, so please keep reading!
