A safe and trusted place where people can come for help.

HopeStreet - Wellington is situated in a community that is experiencing multiple forms of disadvantage. Often referred to as the “Ice Capital of Australia”, our work in Wellington is at the very street level, where we aim to offer practical support and hope to the community.

Our central focus here is to meet one of the most basic human needs; the need for low-cost and nutritional food. Our work here is to provide food support and alleviate the food affordability crisis that leaves many individuals and families struggling to place a meal on the table and groceries in the cupboard.

Our team at Wellington is passionate about making a difference and bringing hope to the lives of many, being a safe and trusted place where people can come for help.

What we do

No Interest Loans

Giving individuals and families access to safe and affordable loans

Our No Interest Loans are absolutely free of interest, fees, charges or penalties. They’re about giving individuals and families access to safe and affordable loans for everyday items such as white goods, car repairs, school uniforms, computers and medical bills.

People with poor credit history, or a string of bad debt and no spare cash, really struggle to find the funds for these every day or emergency costs, which can lead to substantial hardship. This basic financial support means that individuals and families are able to look towards their future, with a loan that empowers them, rather than adding to the cycle of debt.

Low Cost Groceries

Food affordability is a significant issue experienced by families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet.

Access to low-cost and nutritious groceries means that people can stock their cupboards, and redirect much needed funds to other living costs such as household bills. HopeStreet’s low cost groceries are sourced from our local food partners, and include everything from fresh bread, to cereal, fruit and vegetables and cleaning products. At HopeStreet, we believe that everyone has the right to access food that is affordable and nutritious.

Food Support

HopeStreet welcomes many people living with disadvantage through its doors every day, to enjoy basic sit-down meals. Most often, they are homeless and the meal we provide might be the only meal they eat that day. It’s not just about the meal though; HopeStreet is a safe and welcoming place where positive friendships are built and the sense of community is strong.

Food support extends beyond sit down meals at HopeStreet and crisis food packs are also provided often to individuals and families who lack the basic items to make a meal.
